Dental Fillings

A dental filling is used to restore a tooth that had been damaged by decay. It adds extra strength to the tooth, preventing further damage and infections, while preserving the tooth's natural function and shape.

In order to have the fillings placed on the tooth, the decayed part of the tooth needs to be removed and the cavity needs to be cleaned and filled out with with filling material. By doing this, there will be no space left behind for bacteria to enter so that no further decay can occur. The materials used for fillings can include gold, porcelain, composite resin fillings (tooth coloured), and an amalgam (an alloy made of mercury, silver, copper, tin and sometimes zinc).

The type of filling material used depends on the individual patient, as no kind of filling is best for everyone, or every tooth. The type of filling that suits you best will be determined by the extent of repairs required, the materials that you may be allergic too, which tooth requires the filling, and also the cost.

During a visit to Veeran Dental, Dr Veeran can examine your mouth - using x-rays and other special instruments - and detect whether you have a cavity that needs to be filled.
